How do I get a security guard license in New York State?

You must be 18+, a US citizen or authorized to work, complete the 8-Hour Pre-Assignment course, pass a background check, and apply through NYS DCJS. Star Security Training is a DCJS-approved provider in Brooklyn.

How much does security guard training cost?

The 8-Hour Pre-Assignment course is $100, the 16-Hour OJT is $200, and our Fast Track Package is $300. Annual renewal is $80.

Do you accept Workforce1 vouchers?

Yes. Star Security Training is an NYC Workforce1-approved provider. Eligible candidates can use vouchers to cover 8-Hour and 16-Hour training courses for free.

How long does it take to become a licensed security guard in NY?

You can complete required training in as little as 3 days with our Fast Track Package, then apply for your NYS license. Total processing typically takes 3–6 weeks.

In-Person Classes

Seating in our classroom courses is limited. Because classes must be prepaid to reserve a seat and seats are capped, classes paid online are not refundable. Please choose your class date carefully.

Rescheduling

If you cannot attend the class date you selected, contact us as soon as possible at (718) 773-5000 and we will do our best to move you to another available session.

Online Courses

Online fire guard prep courses provide immediate access to digital course content upon purchase and are therefore non-refundable once access has been granted.
